Gateway City sent two teams down to the Elkhorn Tournament, Aug. 7-9, in Elkhorn, Neb., and both won titles.  The U-14 Fusion went 4-0, outscoring opponents, 15-4.  Meanwhile, the U-11 Strikers produced a 4-0-1 record while outscoring their foes, 25-4. 



Gateway City Fusion (U-13G) defended its title at the Schwan's USA Cup, in Minneapolis, Minn., July 17-19.  The Fusion, coached by Shane Tymkowicz, outscored its opponents, 16-3 at the tournament.  On the way to its second title in as many tries, Fusion went 5-1, defeating Xplosion (West Fargo, N.D.), Lightning (Wyzata, Minn.), Lightning (Greenbay, Wis.), Flames (Bismarck, ND) and the Wildcats (Caledon, Ontario).

The Gateway City Freedom won gold in the girls' varsity division at the State Games of America, July 31-Aug. 2, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Freedom qualified for the Olympic-style tournament by winning gold at the Iowa Games in 2008.  The Freedom outscored its opponents, 22-2 at the tournament, defeating Corinthians Gold (Pueblo, CO) 4-0, Trojans (Fountain Ft. Carson, CO) 10-0, Hartford United (Hartford, WI) 5-2 and Rush Swoosh (Denver, CO) 3-0.

A boys' team, made up mostly of Gateway City Strikers, won the 2009 U-10 competitive division title at the Iowa Games.  The Sioux City squad outscored its opponents, 21-4.
